Etsy photo and video specs
From Etsy's own help pages, checked in October 2026. Etsy changes these from time to time, so follow the links if you want to double check.
- Photo size
- Etsy recommends listing photos at least 2000 pixels wide and 2000 pixels tall. Your first photo needs to be at least 635 pixels on each side, or it can show up lower in search. Source
- First photo shape
- Make the first photo landscape or square. Etsy crops it into square, portrait and landscape thumbnails, so leave space around the product. Source
- Photos per listing
- Up to 20 photos and 2 videos. Source
- File type and weight
- JPG, PNG, GIF, SVG or HEIC. Transparent parts of a PNG show up black. Files over 1MB may not finish uploading on a slow connection. Source
- Video length
- Up to 15 seconds. Etsy's video help page gives 3 to 15 seconds, and its listing guide says 5 to 15. Source
- Video sound
- Listing videos play with no audio once uploaded. Source
- Video file
- Up to 100MB. MP4 and MOV both work. Etsy says the ideal resolution is at least 1080px. Source
Heavy file? The free image compressor on our sister site Remove AI Watermarking gets a photo under 1MB in your browser without a visible drop in quality.
How it works
- 1
Upload one photo
Take a clear photo of your item on your phone. Any plain surface works. The product just needs to be sharp and fully in frame.
- 2
Pick a style and shape
Choose one of 12 scenes and a shape. For an Etsy first photo, pick Landscape (4:3) or Square.
- 3
Download and list
Save your photo, or turn it into a 5, 10 or 15 second listing video. Check that the product looks exactly like the one you ship.
Which style suits your shop
There are 12 styles in the studio. These are good places to start for the most common Etsy categories.
Jewelry
- Dark luxury
- Marble counter
- Pastel podium
Dark luxury makes gold and silver stand out. Marble keeps things bright and simple. Shoot close so the detail survives the thumbnail crop.
Candles
- Botanical shadows
- Marble counter
- Holiday gift
Botanical shadows suit soy and natural candles. Holiday gift works for seasonal scents. Make sure the label stays readable.
Home decor
- Botanical shadows
- Desert plinth
- Flat lay
Warm, natural scenes help buyers picture the piece at home. Use a plain studio white shot as well so the true colour is clear.
Art prints
- Clean studio white
- Flat lay
- Bold color pop
Check that the artwork itself has not changed at all. Lines, colours and text need to match the print buyers get.
Skincare
- Water splash
- Marble counter
- Pastel podium
Water splash fits cleansers and serums. Marble reads as a bathroom shelf. Read the ingredient text on the label closely after each result.
Clothing
- Flat lay
- Clean studio white
- Bold color pop
Lay the garment flat for your source photo. Flat lay and studio white show the cut and colour honestly. The studio does not put clothes on models.
Etsy listing videos from the same photo
Etsy listing videos can run up to 15 seconds. Our videos come in 5, 10, 15 seconds at 720p or 1080p, so every length fits. Etsy plays listing videos without sound, so leave Sound off. You save credits and buyers see the same thing.
Pick a motion: slow turn, slow zoom in, light sweep, floating, camera orbit, living scene. A slow turn or camera orbit shows the item from more than one side. A light sweep shows off shine on jewelry and glass.
A 5 second 720p video costs 5 credits. A 15 second 1080p video costs 20. Etsy says the ideal video resolution is at least 1080px, so choose 1080p for your best listings.
Follow Etsy's photo and AI rules
Etsy is built on buyer trust, and its rules on photos and AI are worth reading before you list. Here is what Etsy's pages say:
- Listing photos should be your own photos of the actual item buyers will receive, not stock photos or renderings.
- Listings and listing photos must accurately represent your items.
- If an item is created with AI, you must disclose it in the listing.
We did not find an Etsy rule written for AI backgrounds behind a real product photo, so play it safe. Keep at least one plain, real photo of the item in every listing. Only use results where the product matches what you ship in colour, size, material and quantity. Props in a scene are not part of the order, so say so if a buyer could think they are. When AI helped make your photos, say that in your description, for example: “Some photos use AI backgrounds made from my own photos of this item.”
Never hide AI use from buyers or from Etsy. If Etsy's rules change, follow Etsy's current version over anything on this page.

Questions
What size should Etsy listing photos be?+
Etsy recommends at least 2000 pixels on both the width and the height. The first photo must be at least 635 pixels on each side to avoid showing up lower in search, and it should be landscape or square. In the studio, a 2K square photo saved at our 2000×2000 download size meets it. For a landscape first photo, choose 4K and check the pixel size before you upload.
How many photos and videos can an Etsy listing have?+
Etsy lets you add up to 20 photos and 2 videos to each listing.
How long can an Etsy listing video be?+
Up to 15 seconds. Etsy's video help page says 3 to 15 seconds and its listing guide says 5 to 15. Our videos come in 5, 10 and 15 seconds, so all three fit.
Do Etsy listing videos play sound?+
No. Etsy removes the audio from listing videos once they are uploaded. Leave Sound switched off in the studio. It costs extra credits and buyers would never hear it on Etsy.
Can I use AI product photos on Etsy?+
Read Etsy's own rules first. Etsy asks sellers to use their own photos of the actual item, not stock photos or renderings, and to represent items accurately. Items made with AI must be disclosed in the listing. The studio starts from your own photo, but the scene around it is made by AI. Check every result, keep a plain real photo in the listing, and be open about AI use in your description.
Will my product look exactly the same?+
Every style tells the AI to keep your product's shape, colours, label and logo as they are, and most results come out close. It is still AI, so small details like text or engraving can shift. Compare each result to the real item and only list the ones that match.
How much does it cost?+
A free account gets 3 free photos. After that, 1K and 2K photos cost 1 credit and 4K costs 8. Packs start at $5 for 10 credits, and pack credits never expire.
What happens if a photo fails?+
If a photo or video fails or is blocked by content rules, the credits go straight back to your balance.
